Home AC duct cleaning on Long Island

NADCA-Standard Duct Cleaning for Nassau & Suffolk Homes

Your AC pushes cool air through a network of ducts you almost never see. Over the years those ducts pick up dust, pet dander, pollen, and whatever else gets pulled in, and when the AC kicks on, some of it can end up back in your living room. Home AC duct cleaning clears that buildup out of the system.

SaniTech Services does residential air duct cleaning across Long Island, in both Nassau and Suffolk County. We're a NADCA member, our specialists are ASCS certified, and we've been doing this since 2011. If you want a quote now, call (631) 656-3315. If you'd rather understand the job first, here's how it works.

What duct cleaning for a house actually involves

Duct cleaning for a house is a different job from vacuuming the registers. The dirt that matters sits deeper, in the supply and return ducts, on the coils, and around the blower. We follow NADCA's Assessment, Cleaning and Restoration (ACR) standard, which goes roughly like this:

  1. We assess the system first, so we know what condition it's in.
  2. We remove the debris from inside the ducts using NADCA-approved methods and equipment.
  3. We clean the coils if they're part of the job.
  4. You get a before-and-after report.
  5. You also get maintenance recommendations for the system.

The EPA says that keeping water and dirt out of the system in the first place is the most effective way to prevent contamination. In practice, that means changing the filter on schedule, fixing leaks and moisture problems quickly, and keeping construction dust away from the registers during a remodel.

Why AC ducts get dirty

Nothing is wrong with your house. Ducts collect dirt because all the air in the home passes through them, again and again. The usual contributors are:

  • Dust, pet dander, and pollen that come in through open windows and on shoes
  • Drywall dust and debris from renovations
  • Lint and fibers from carpets and bedding
  • Moisture, since an AC pulls humidity out of the air as it cools

A filter catches a lot of this, but not all of it, and not if it's overdue for a change.

Signs your home AC ducts need cleaning

  • Dust blows out of the vents when the AC starts
  • A musty or stale smell when the cooling kicks on
  • Some rooms stay warm while others get cold
  • Dust returns within days of cleaning
  • You've had a remodel, a leak, or a long stretch with the house closed up
  • You have pets, a smoker, or a finished basement

None of these guarantees the ducts are the problem. A weak airflow complaint can also come from a leak, a blocked return, or a tired blower. That's why an inspection is a good first step.

Residential air duct cleaning across Long Island

Every house puts its system through different conditions. Older homes may have ductwork that's decades old, and finished basements and additions can mean more duct runs to keep clean.

We handle home air duct cleaning across Long Island, in both Nassau and Suffolk County. You can read more on our Nassau County, Suffolk County and East Hampton pages. We also serve all five boroughs of New York City.

A sensible time to book is late spring, before the cooling season starts, or in the fall before you rely on the heat. If you see one of the signs above, don't wait for the calendar.

What cleaning can and can't do

Cleaning removes buildup. It doesn't repair a leaking duct, and it can't make up for a filter you never change. Be wary of any company that promises to cure allergies or cut your energy bill by a set percentage. The EPA says duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems, so we don't promise it either. What cleaning does is remove visible dust and debris from the system.

Business owners

If you run a commercial property, the process is similar but bigger. We typically start with an inspection and a written scope, and you get documentation for your files. See our commercial duct cleaning page for details.

Home AC duct cleaning: common questions

Will duct cleaning help my allergies?

There's no guarantee. The EPA says duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems, and dirty ducts are only one of many possible sources of dust in a home. If allergies are a concern, talk to your doctor too.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of the system, the number of vents and returns, how easy the ducts are to reach, and their condition. Quotes are free with no obligation, so you'll know the price before we start.

How long does it take?

It depends on the size of the home and the number of systems. Ask for a timeline when you request your quote.

When is the best time of year?

Late spring, before the AC season, or fall, before the heat. If you've had a renovation, a leak, or notice dust or odors, book whenever you see them.
